D-D Mac Kennels Longhaired Miniature Dachshunds |
Jasper’s Story – Our first meeting was with Jasper, a standard, abandoned near our house. He’d been wandering, obviously without food or water for a few days. We took him in, nursed him back to health and kept him. He was the first dog to live in our house and sleep on the couch with Richard. Penny, Jasper’s Sister – My friend, Janet, fell in love with longhairs. She wanted us to do the same. I thought one dog was enough, but I went with her to visit the litter. There was Penny, Jasper’s sister. She was a standard longhair and obviously destined to be part of the family, too. Penny lived with us until cancer took her two years ago. She was Richard’s baby, truly sweet and utterly loveable. We had to put our beautiful baby to sleep because she was suffering. It was the hardest thing we’ve ever done. All The Rest – We decided to go with longhair minis because I can have a hundred of them...all sitting on my lap at one time! Anyone who knows me now may not believe that I lived in a very formal home as a little girl. I had no animals of any kind. Now I have a houseful! I even like to take naps with them on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Kid, Spitfire, Sara, Footers, Molly and Jasper all curl up with me on the king size bed. I had to get extra pillows. They growl at me if I don’t leave them room! It’s hard to let the pups go, so we only allow them out the door to families who’ll love them as much as we do. I think everyone needs a longhair dachsie in their life. They look like tiny Irish Setters and act like angels. Darlene McPheeters
